Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that to meet the derating requirements for +28V power supplies in customer applications, Vishay has increased the rated voltage of its TANTAMOUNT Hi-Rel COTS T83, low-ESR TR3, and standard industrial-grade 293D series solid tantalum chip capacitors to 63V, the highest voltage in this category among industry peers.diode

Due to the lack of alternative products for +28V applications, designers have had no choice but to rely on 50V tantalum capacitors so far, yet these capacitors fail to meet the derating requirements for 50V rated voltage (such as in military and most demanding commercial products). With the 63V rated voltage of D and E package sizes, the new T83, TR3, and 293D allow designers to adopt solid-state surface-mount tantalum capacitors in +28V power designs while fully complying with derating requirements, thereby resolving this long-standing unresolved issue.diode

The newly released device offers a cost-effective solution for decoupling in 63V applications, +28V power supplies, and 35V DC-DC conversions, while being optimized for aerospace, sensor, industrial control, and base station applications.

The Hi-Rel COTS T83 series offers five package dimensions and includes high-reliability screening options, such as Weibull grading and inrush current testing compliant with the MIL-PRF-55365 standard. It is available in both standard and low ESR versions.

The TR3 series with low ESR can handle high ripple current, while the standard industrial-grade 293D has passed optical characteristic certification. Both the TR3 and 293D capacitors are available in six package sizes.

As members of Vishay's TANTAMOUNT tantalum capacitor family, all these devices provide a voltage range of 4V to 63V within the temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, requiring voltage derating at +125°C. The capacitors can be mounted using high-capacity automated pick-and-place equipment and are available with standard RoHS-compliant tin terminals, as well as tin/lead terminals.diode
