Renesas Technology Corp. recently announced the launch of two varicap diodes for adjustable antennas used in portable and mobile terminals with digital terrestrial broadcasting capabilities: the RKV653KP, which has the industry's smallest size of 0.6mm × 0.3mm, and the RKV653KL, which comes in an extended package format. Sample shipments will begin on August 3, 2006, from Japan.
An adjustable antenna is an antenna that can change its resonant frequency to effectively receive various frequency bands. This will help use small packages and adjustable antennas to handle digital terrestrial broadcast frequencies for portable and mobile terminals (One-Seg broadcasting), thereby promoting the integration of antennas with mobile phones that have One-Seg broadcasting capability. Renesas Technology's RKV653KP and RKV653KL can meet the strict specifications of embedded varicap diodes required to change the antenna's resonant frequency. These two products can be used for One-Seg broadcasting and other digital broadcast services, such as adjustable antennas for Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB). The characteristics of the two devices are as follows:diode
(1) The industry's smallest size (RKV653KP)
The size of the RKV653KP is 0.6mm × 0.3mm × 0.3mm (typical value), making it the industry's smallest varicap diode for adjustable antennas. This helps easily integrate the antenna inside mobile phones.
