In recent years, organic field-effect transistors have attracted attention from both academia and industry due to their potential applications in large-area, flexible, and low-cost active matrix displays, RF tags, and other fields, and have made significant progress.

Previously, researchers developed copper and silver modification methods to replace gold as source drain electrodes for organic field effects and obtained high-performance devices. Later, by constructing nanostructured electrodes, the relationship between electrode morphology and device performance was studied. Recently, the laboratory has made new progress in the research of low-cost and high-performance organic field-effect transistors. They have used copper with low work function as the source and drain electrodes to prepare high-performance organic field-effect transistors with upper electrode structures.transistors

For organic optoelectronic devices, the work function of the electrode and the energy level of the organic semiconductor determine the injection of charge carriers and greatly affect the performance of the device. Gold electrodes can form good contact with most p-type organic semiconductors and are widely used as source and drain electrodes for p-type organic field-effect transistors. Through systematic experimental design and device characterization, it was found that a small amount of copper oxide is formed on the copper electrode during the air storage process of vapor deposition, which is beneficial for reducing the potential barrier of carrier injection and improving the performance of the device. In addition, good electrode/semiconductor contact is also the reason why copper based electrode devices have high performance. This study has laid a solid foundation for the practical application of organic field-effect transistors
